Paper Based bedding helps to reduce cell counts and mastitis
Suitable for Cubicles, on mats and matresses, loose housed and shallow-bed system
EnviroBed provides:
- 5 times the absorbency of sawdust and 10 times the absorbency of straw, leading to cows kept drier and cleaner for longer.
- A favourable pH of 7.4 along with the natural lime and copper content which are unattractive to the growth of pathogenic mastitis-causing bacteria.
- Extreme absorbency for increased lifespan bedding with each load lasting at least 3 times as long as heavier commodities such as plasterboard waste, lime ash and sand.
- The optimum density of paper bedding stays on cubicle beds better than sawdust, sand or straw.
First introduced to the UK market in 2001, EnviroBed has undergone 10 years of development and improvement leading to a consistent bedding of 95% dry matter, which is suitable for use on mats and mattresses, loose housing and in deep beds. Always available and not dependant on the weather EnviroBed can be relied upon throughout the year. With correct use, cell counts are kept low and mastitis cases are reduced resulting in more milk sold, lower vet bills and increased farm profit.
How EnviroBed is made
Wet sludge utilised to manufacture EnviroBed is obtained from paper re-cycling mills throughout the U.K. Care is taken to source material of certain moisture and fibre content to maintain the consistent and organic nature of EnviroBed. Our drying plant is located in Knutsford, Cheshire. Heat is applied for an appropriate length of time to achieve 95% dry matter material. As well as kiln drying and heat treating, the machinery also processes the raw material to achieve an even particle size which means the texture of EnviroBed is consistent and ideal for all types of cubicle surfaces.

How to use EnviroBed
As well as being useful bedding for cattle, EnviroBed is also currently used as effective bedding for poultry, sheep and goats. With sheep and goats it is used as an under layer for a top surface of straw. EnviroBed animal bedding wicks away the moisture from the top whilst keeping the surface dry and ammonia free. Envirobed is available in bulk tippers, rolling floor artics and 8 wheelers as well as pallets of 50 x 20kg bags. Once received, the paper bedding should be stored indoors in clean, dry conditions.
As a bench mark, 1kg per cubicle per day should be applied (with 2kgs for high yield cows if in a separate group) every day after cleaning off the back of cubicles. EnviroBed is effectively used on mats or mattresses or concrete cubicles, but can also be used in a shallow-bed system. The shallow bed system is employed in the Netherlands and has had impressive results.
Loose Housed
Cows are often dirtier in loose housed than those in cubicles as they lie on their own waste. This can result in breeding of harmful pathogen causing mastitis, so it is important that your cows are bedded in the most suitable bedding material. EnviroBed is highly absorbent making the cows cleaner and has pH 7.4 which can help prevent pathogens breeding.
EnviroBed can be used in conjunction with other bedding material absorbing the moisture underneath. EnviroBed can also be used on it's own by applying it 3'' deep, once the wet areas dry up, the bedding can be raked and used again making the bedding last longer.
