About

First introduced to the UK market in 2001, EnviroBed™ has undergone 10 years of development and improvement leading to a product today which is consistently 95% dry matter and very suitable for use on mats and mattresses as well as deep bed cubicles. Its innovation came about because of the lack of choice and availability of economical and consistently dry, dairy bedding which is needed for high production healthy dairy cows.

How is EnviroBed made?

The wet sludge utilised to manufacture EnviroBed is obtained from paper re-cycling mills throughout the U.K. The UK Paper industry produces large quantities of wet waste short fibre sludge each year in which the fibres are too short for use in paper recycling. When processed in a specific way and kiln dried, this waste sludge makes dry, absorbent and consistent bedding.

Care is taken to source material of a certain moisture and fibre content to maintain the consistent and organic nature of EnviroBed. Our drying plant is located in Knutsford, Cheshire. As well as kiln drying and heat treating, the machinery also processes the raw material to achieve an even particle size which means the texture of EnviroBed is consistent and ideal for all types of cubicle surfaces.

Texture

Recent improvements to the production of EnviroBed have lead to a soft, finer texture which stays on cubicles in airy sheds, and the smaller particle size leads to each load lasting longer. 5 x more absorbent than sawdust and 10 x more absorbent than straw, like blotting paper EnviroBed rapidly absorbs ammonia, urine and leaked milk which minimises seepage onto other beds and keeps udders clean for easier milking.

Bedding for sheep, goats, horses and poultry

As well as being useful bedding for cattle, EnviroBed is also currently used as effective bedding for poultry, sheep and goats. With sheep and goats it is used as an under layer for a top surface of straw. EnviroBed animal bedding wicks away the moisture from the top whilst keeping the surface dry and ammonia free.

EnvrioBed is currently available to the UK, Ireland and Europe in bulk loads or bags.
