EnviroBed

Benefits of using EnviroBed

EnviroBed cubicle bedding is always available, not dependant on the weather or time of year.
EnviroBed is 95/96% Dry Matter so this animal bedding is 5 times more absorbent than Sawdust and 10 times more absorbent than straw.
As a dairy cattle bedding when used in a 5-6 inch shallow-bed, it forms a friable base that cattles know will be comfortable and will not cause injury or discomfort when lying down and getting up.
The density of EnviroBed means it has the ability to last longer on the beds.
The weak alkaline pH of 7.4 is unattractive to the growth of pathogenic mastitis-causing bacteria.
The extra density of the paper bedding allows it to stay on the cubicles a great benefit in modern, airy sheds.
With correct use, cell counts are kept low and mastitis cases are reduced resulting in more milk sold, lower vet bills and increased profit from your cattles.

How EnviroBed is made

Wet sludge utilised to manufacture EnviroBed is obtained from paper re-cycling mills throughout the U.K. Care is taken to source material of certain moisture and fibre content to maintain the consistent and organic nature of EnviroBed. Our drying plant is located in Knutsford, Cheshire. Heat is applied for an appropriate length of time to achieve 95% dry matter material. As well as kiln drying and heat treating, the machinery also processes the raw material to achieve an even particle size which means the texture of EnviroBed is consistent and ideal for all types of cubicle surfaces.

Why should I consider bedding my cattles on EnviroBed?
  • High absorbency
  • Cleaner and more comfortable cattles
  • Breaks down in slurry
  • No lime required
  • Always available
  • Value for money

How to use EnviroBed

As well as being useful bedding for cattle, EnviroBed is also currently used as effective bedding for poultry, sheep and goats. With sheep and goats it is used as an under layer for a top surface of straw. EnviroBed animal bedding wicks away the moisture from the top whilst keeping the surface dry and ammonia free. Envirobed is available in bulk tippers, rolling floor artics and 8 wheelers as well as pallets of 50 x 20kg bags. Once received, the paper bedding should be stored indoors in clean, dry conditions.

As a bench mark, 1kg per cubicle per day should be applied (with 2kgs for high yield cows if in a separate group) every day after cleaning off the back of cubicles. EnviroBed is effectively used on mats or mattresses or concrete cubicles, but can also be used in a shallow-bed system. Such a system is employed in the Netherlands and has had impressive results.

Shallow-Bed System will reduce hock damage

The shallow-bed system has been developed in the Netherlands to improve cow comfort, reduce hock damage and control bedding usage. This system can be adapted from existing deep bed sand or straw systems. Another approach is to place a retaining  bar at the back of the cubicles with mats and matresses so that a shallow-bed of EnviroBed animal bedding can be retained for the cattles to lie on and keep comfortable and dry. It is a simple way to keep cattles clean and healthy with less work. In the 7.87 inch (20cm) shallow-bed all fluids are absorbed at the bottom while the top stays dry. Photos
