PIP press release Summer 2008
New to the UK... from the Netherlands.
PIP – Probiotics in Progress
Your route to Healthier Housing & Healthier Cows
This is a unique approach used in the Netherlands to overcome the pathogenic bacteria which cause Digital Dermatitis, Mastitis and other disease/health problems commonly found in high production dairy cows.
THE PIP SYSTEM works with nature to provide a Healthy Microbiological Environment in Livestock Housing, on Beds and on your cows/calves skin surfaces. This is a long term solution and applying PIP is easy to work in with the normal livestock management routines.
Because animal housing is often heavily contaminated it is crucial to obtain and maintain a healthy and stable microbial community. By means of routine cleaning and stabilising with PIP you can achieve optimal hygiene levels leading to better resistance to common diseases which cost so much in replacement cows, vet bills, fertility, milk production and milk quality.
We have more MRSA and intensive livestock diseases than ever before... the reason... disease causing pathogenic bacteria have become more and more resistant due to the use of ever stronger disinfectants and antibiotics.
Incidence of DIGITAL DERMATITIS, MASTITIS and HIGH CELL COUNTS are all determined by levels of pathogenic bacteria in the cubicle house, collecting yards and milking parlours.
The PIP Probiotic Range
PIP AHC (Animal Housing Cleaner)
Is a strong active cleanser used to thoroughly clean cubicle houses and milking parlours. Immediately after cleaning, a healthy and stable microbial community is created on the surfaces by means of safe probiotic PIP bacteria. The product has a long lasting effect and makes disinfection in most cases redundant. Cleaning is to be carried out in accordance with the levels of dirt, AHC cleans fast without need for scrubbing.
PIP AHS (Animal Housing Stabilizer)
Is needed after AHC to maintain a sufficiently high number of probiotic PIP bacteria in the animal house. The probiotic suspension establishes a healthy and stable microbial community in the environment and with regular application keeps them there. The product can be used in all animal housings by means of simple and economic spraying. In case of heavily contaminated facilities it is strongly recommended to perform a thorough cleaning by means of PIP AHC before using PIP AHS. Because of the stable healthy microbiota, disinfection becomes mostly redundant.
STEP 3: PIP CFC (Cow Feet Cleaner)
Is very effective both as a footbath for all cows or spot treating in the parlour twice per day. Humidity is a very important element in the survival and spread of pathogens. It is important that the animal housing is as dry as possible. Using CFC on the legs and feet will result in a strong decrease in humidity because the probiotic bacteria consume the moisture. Chemicals will kill pathogens for a short while but at the same time damage skin surfaces PIP probiotics have a long term effect through populating the skin surface with healthy bacteria and maintaining the integrity of the surface.
STEP 4: PIP CTC (Cow Teat Cleaner)
In order to achieve high milk production with good cell count it is very important to maintain good hygienic conditions. Each decrease in cell count represents a production rise, hence attention needs to be paid to the milking routine and conditions. Mechanical milking frequently damages the teat skin which may lead to infections when hygiene is not optimal. Because of the limited efficiency and action of pre-dips, dips and other disinfectants these products often cannot offer a sustainable solution to the problems.
When using PIP CTC before, during and/or after the milking of cows, the hygienic conditions are kept optimal. The probiotic PIP bacteria will result in a lower risk of problems with pathogens as a result of the milking process. PIP CTC is perfectly safe and biologically degradable.
