OVERCOME STRAW SHORTAGES THIS WINTER...

Reduced yields of straw are predicted this winter after the driest summer in 80 years, which has resulted in farmers turning away from the traditional animal bedding. An organic, sustainable alternative is heat-treated recycled paper which produces hygienic, economical livestock bedding.

Dried to 95% dry matter, recycled wet paper-sludge produces highly absorbent, clean and comfortable bedding. Unlike straw and sawdust, this year-round alternative is not weather/seasonal dependent; fully biodegradable it readily feeds through slurry channels and spreads onto land. The natural lime content maintains a favourable pH of 7.4 keeping mastitis to a minimum and providing quality, low cellcount milk.

Preston based EnviroSystems UK Ltd has been sourcing and drying this Organic Farmer & Grower registered bedding for over 9 years. Five times more absorbent than sawdust/shavings and ten times more absorbent than straw, EnviroBed rapidly absorbs moisture and ammonia providing a healthy, clean environment. Delivered direct to farm, Envirobed is available in bulk or bags and its fine texture is ideal on concrete cubicles, mats, mattresses and loose housing.

Liz Russell, MD EnviroSystems explains “Continued improvements to EnviroBed’s  dryness, fineness and comfort provide the farmer with reliable, prolonged-lifespan bedding. This encourages cows to lie down for longer which maximises milk production, longevity and farm profits.”
