Forage Mycotoxins

Mycotoxicosis, which is mycotoxin poisoning, has long been accepted as an acute cause of poor animal performance. Moulds and mycotoxins are widely distributed in nature, occurring whenever there is sufficient organic matter, temperature and water for them to reproduce.

Some, if not all moulds can produce a mycotoxin when subjected to stress. These mycotoxins consumed either in large single doses or in small quantities over long periods can adversely effect production, fertility and herd health.

Initial exposure to mycotoxin concentrations in ruminant's feed often shows no effects, but if consumption of mycotoxin continues over the subsequent days and weeks this can lead to a range of problems such as:

- Signs of haemorrhaging                   - Diarrhoea

- Abomasum problems                        - Reduced fertility or abortion

- Swollen vulvas or udders                 - Weight gain

- Poor milk production                        - Estrogenic effects

Optimize Plus is a complete system incorporating the latest thinking on silage inoculant. It has been developed for use over the widest possible range of forage types to improve silage aerobic stability and reduce waste.

Protecting against yeast and mould growth in your silage:

- Improve sfeed efficiency                         - Improves animal health

- Optimises gut metabolism                      - Stimulates the immune system

- Promotes beneficial microflora              - Shields against displaced abomasum
